Our Café is open for business
If you've noticed a warm, rich coffee aroma wafting through the air on Orange Street it's because Ameritage Café is open for business.
Our focus will be on flavor and service with Chestnut Hill Coffee served to you by baristas trained by legendary Seattle coffee expert John Hornall.
Chestnut Hill Coffee selected for your enjoyment
Inspired by the best European and Seattle cafes, opening an upscale espresso bar was the dream of longtime restaurateur Sultan Malikyar. Chestnut Hill Coffee Co. is the realization of that dream.
We opened our doors in 2005 with an elite staff of baristas led by Seattle coffee legend John Hornall. Immediately, Philadelphia was introduced to a new standard of coffee. Our velvety espresso and beautifully poured lattes gained an instant following. One year later we began roasting our own beans asserting our place as a leader in the Philadelphia coffee scene.
Baristas trained by the legendary John Hornall
Hornall, freshly arrived from Seattle, is the self-described "barista with clout" at the new Chestnut Hill Coffee Co. He's been working at an espresso machine for the past 25 years.
He started with an espresso cart when he was 19, and comes to Philly from Hines Public Market Coffee, one of the more venerable coffee arenas in Seattle. He's described by Coffeegeek.com as "the best 'real-time' barista in the country." When I ask him what that means, he explains that outside of competition, in everyday life, he's the best.
"I have a pretty well-known name in the country," he deadpans. "I'm one of the master baristas."
And the deadpan truth is, he's right.Learn more -->
